2018 was a year of introspection and ultimately a reinvention of our now 17-year-old organization.

While the new logo and updated website are the most outward-facing sign of our refresh, the work that is happening here at 461 Burroughs is what we hope will really grab your attention.

How We Got Here:

First a little background: For those of you who don’t know, not only am I NextEnergy’s president and CEO, but I am also its longest-serving employee. Over the last 15 years I’ve had the opportunity to work with many talented people on projects that have made a real impact in our state and in the industries we’ve served. What I’ve come to learn is that one of this organization’s greatest assets is its ability to adapt to support the changing needs of our clients and partners. From our beginnings as a driver of state-wide economic-growth in advanced energy technologies including wind, solar and energy storage; through the transition to support Michigan’s growing mobility industry, smart building and grid technologies; our team of experts, deep industry and technical knowledge, along with our national network of corporate, venture and public sector partners, have enabled us to help bring these emerging technologies to market and, more importantly, to the people whose lives they will improve.

Our Work:

Accelerating Innovation:

Our new tagline “accelerating innovation” is at the core of what we do and ties directly into our mission: We work with innovators to accelerate smarter, cleaner, more accessible solutions for communities and cities. While this is nothing new for us, it does represent our renewed commitment to not only deliver measurable outcomes for our partners, but to ensure that the technologies we are working to commercialize will have improved the quality of life for those that use them.

Focus Areas:

Based on our expertise, network and resources, we are focused on accelerating innovation in:

  • Smart Mobility
Connected, automated, shared and electrified (CASE) mobility solutions and how they interact with the surrounding infrastructure and systems.
  • Smart Grid
Smart, energy-efficient solutions for buildings and homes, and how they interact with the surrounding infrastructure and systems.

NextEnergy has a long history of developing effective programs and pilots to help our clients achieve their commercialization goals.

We Do This Through:

  • Rapid proof-of-concept and business model exploration
  • Access to the innovation pipeline
  • Opportunities to leverage research, development and commercialization funding
  • Mentoring and consulting to facilitate connections to industry partners and investors

If you are interested in leveraging our expertise to move your technology forward, I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our work and some of our current projects and programs: PlanetM Pilot Grants, Extreme Fast Charging, NextChallenge, LiTES and MaTCH. You can also learn more about our team and how you can get in touch with us.

We are looking forward to an exciting year of new activity, partners and the opportunity to make a difference. Whether you are a new connection, or have been on this journey with us since 2002, we would like to thank you for your continued support.
