Detroit Climate Action Strategy

Overview

The Detroit Office of Sustainability is developing a climate action strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the city of Detroit. The office has engaged a team of consultants to create an equitable climate strategy that authentically reflects the voice and priorities of Detroiters.

Our Work

As a member of the consultant team, NextEnergy will provide technical assistance to city government departments and will assess these departments’ energy use — at their facilities and by their fleets — to reduce GHG emissions. Based on its assessment, NextEnergy will recommend GHG reduction strategies to department heads and operations staff. Beyond this work, NextEnergy will also complete the following activities:

  • Provide specifications verbiage and model codes citations for use in specifications
  • Offer technical input during the design and concept stages for facilities and fleet capital plans
  • Recommend thoughtful strategies to move Detroit toward its decarbonization goals by right sizing, electrification, use of clean fuels and energy generation from onsite renewables

Outcomes

NextEnergy’s recommendations and findings will serve as a blueprint of sustainability for Detroit’s future capital improvement and operations programs.
