Guest Blog: Mary Templeton, Executive Director, Michigan Saves: ACI Conference signals positive trend toward a more energy-efficient US/Detroit

By Posted on April 8, 2014

The selection of Detroit and Cobo Hall for the upcoming Affordable Care Inc. (ACI) National Home Performance Conference (April 29-May 1) brilliantly symbolizes the current positive trends in energy markets.

Michigan Saves is proud to be a sponsor of the ACI event and is excited for this opportunity to tell our story about the connections between our financing programs, energy efficiency improvements, and a better, healthier America.

Cobo Hall underwent a $279 million makeover a few years ago, and is now saving millions of dollars every year on its utility bills. Michigan Saves was pleased to assist in helping the conference center reach its energy efficiency goals. (Learn more about this innovative project.)

At Michigan Saves, our mantra is “Making Energy Improvements Easy and Affordable.” We do this by collaborating with financial institutions and a highly trained corps of contractors to streamline the assessment of, and response to, energy-wasting weaknesses in homes and businesses. Through these techniques, ranging from the installation of Energy Star HVAC units to air sealing, Michigan Saves helps clients gain control of their utility bills, and gain independence from energy sources that harm our environment.

This year’s conference  theme, “Creating a Better America”  is fitting, since Detroit is in the midst of its own transformation including its liberation from high energy bills. We all know the value of such work.

And, as it is every year, the conference will be a buzzing hub of discussions among contractors, builders, remodelers, utilities, program administrators, policy-makers, and others interested in the home performance industry, around the pursuit of energy efficiency, green job growth, and environmental stewardship. We look forward to the opportunity to share some of our insights during the breakout sessions, and eagerly anticipate some great networking among like-minded professionals.

Among the information we will provide at ACI:

  • How we helped more than 11,000 homeowners be more comfortable in their homes and save money every month on their utility bills.
  • How we helped more than 150 business owners improve their bottom line via efficiency improvements.

Through such successes, and with the aid of our partners, Michigan Saves now provides financing for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in the residential, commercial, multifamily, and public sector markets. During the ACI conference, we will share not just the successes, but also the lessons we’ve learned from our failures. I hope to see you there.
