Allow me to introduce you to the Michigan Solid State Lighting Association, also known as the “MSSLA”.  It may be helpful to understand that the term “solid state lighting” is used synonymously with “LED lighting,” however; the MSSLA is much more than just LED lighting. Our association is made up of companies lighting up Michigan’s economy!

Formed in October 2009 with over 34 members, MSSLA’s mission is to ensure that Michigan becomes a global leader in solid-state lighting manufacturing, research and development through knowledge sharing, education and public policy advocacy.  Our principal members are headquartered – and either design, develop or manufacture solid state lighting – here in Michigan to serve both the US and global commercial lighting industry. We develop the products and services required to capitalize on this fast growing market and as of today, are the only state-based association of its kind.

In addition to our focus on increasing awareness of  the benefits of LED lighting (it’s green, costs less and creates better light),  the MSSLA also places a priority on increasing sales of Michigan-made solid state lighting products.  We strongly believe Michigan’s manufacturing legacy will support investment and job growth and leave the state well positioned to become a dominant player in the global lighting market. We are also encouraged by the recent increase in public and private sector purchases of Michigan made lighting products!

On December 3rd, the MSSLA’s annual symposium will be incorporated into the Michigan Advanced Lighting Conference which will be held at the Electrical Industry Training Center in Warren.  In addition to educational opportunities, many of our MSSLA members will showcase their LED lighting technologies. The conference will also offer opportunities to:

  • learn about the lighting industry’s latest trends and developments
  • make valuable connections with Michigan based manufacturers, contractors, or customers
  • earn credit toward AIA, BOMI, and USGBC continuing education

If you are a decision maker interested in LED lighting for your facilities, this is an excellent opportunity to explore LED lighting products that are manufactured right here in Michigan. Remember, when you make a decision to buy your LED lighting from a Michigan based company, you help us “light up” Michigan’s economy!
