The deployment, located at the American Center for Mobility (ACM)’s nationally designated mobility testbed near Detroit, is the first of 12 Voltpost chargers to be installed across the region.

Detroit, MI (June 6, 2025)Voltpost, the lamppost electric vehicle (EV) charging company, today announced the first deployment of the company’s lamppost EV charging platform in Michigan. Voltpost collaborated with ACM to install the charging platform at ACM’s campus, a nationally designated mobility testbed located in Ypsilanti Township, near Detroit, Michigan. The deployment, which is supported by the Michigan Office of Future Mobility and Electrification (OFME) through its Michigan Mobility Funding Platform and NextEnergy, marks the first of 12 Voltpost lamppost chargers planned for installation at strategic locations across Detroit and surrounding areas. The purpose of each installation is to expand access to affordable, convenient EV charging for the city’s residents, businesses and visitors.

“Deploying this charger is a meaningful step toward making EV charging more accessible and equitable for all communities,” said Jeffrey Prosserman, CEO and co-founder of Voltpost. “ACM’s testbed provides the perfect proving ground to launch Voltpost Michigan. This collaboration lays the groundwork for a cleaner, more connected mobility future in Detroit, the nation’s epicenter of transportation innovation.”

Voltpost retrofits existing lampposts with modular, Level 2 EV chargers, providing a scalable and cost-effective way to offer curbside and parking lot charging in urban environments. This approach reduces the need for costly construction and shortens deployment timelines, making EV infrastructure more accessible for communities. The first charger has been installed in ACM’s parking area. The next wave of deployments is planned around Newlab at Michigan Central as part of OFME’s work, enabling testing and deployment of transportation technology in Michigan. With the support of NextEnergy, additional chargers will follow at pre-selected sites across Detroit. The Voltpost chargers are equipped with IoT connected by AT&T, which enhances the efficiency of the platform.

“At the American Center for Mobility, we are proud to serve as a testbed for pioneering mobility solutions that benefit both industry and community,” said Reuben Sarkar, president and CEO at ACM. “Collaborating with Voltpost to deploy this new EV charging technology enhances our mobility ecosystem and provides a meaningful step toward more sustainable urban transportation.”

“The Voltpost charger is an excellent example of activating opportunities for new mobility through innovation — creating meaningful, transformative change. Our goal is to make charging accessible for everyone, whether they live in a single-family or multifamily setting,” said Justine Johnson, chief mobility officer and head of OFME. “Together with our partners, we are proud to support these deployments of a very promising potential solution through the Michigan Mobility Funding Platform. The future of EV charging is around the corner, and we will make it in Michigan.”

“Expanding access to EV charging is critical to building a more equitable and inclusive transportation future. The installation of Voltpost’s lamppost charger at the American Center for Mobility demonstrates how we can repurpose existing infrastructure to bring convenient, affordable charging to the community,” said Jim Saber, CEO, NextEnergy. “We’re proud to support this milestone and look forward to advancing future Voltpost deployments that help close the gap in EV charging access nationwide.”

A public ribbon-cutting to celebrate the first commercial installation in Michigan is taking place on June 6 as part of the SAFE Demo Day 2025.
